The Our Emmeline statue was unveiled 14 December 2018, 100 years to the day that the first women voted. I have produced this mini commemorative version of the final statue, with two Manchester-based rights charities receiving a share of the proceeds.
As a token of my appreciation for their valuable work, ten percent of the sales price will be split between The Pankhurst Trust and Wythenshawe Safespots, who were closely involved in the Our Emmeline project, led by Councillor Andrew Simcock.
To produce this scanned and scaled-down version of the statue, I have worked closely with Solid Models, Hobs and Bronze Age Sculpture Casting Foundry. There is a limited edition of 16 bronzes, each 40cm tall.
I chose Wythenshawe Safespots for their excellent work as a user-led charity working with survivors of domestic abuse. I visited the Centre in 2017 and was delighted to have several of the Safespots team visit my studio last year.
“Wythenshawe Safespots would like to say thank you for this vital support. Every penny raised will be used to support women who are experiencing or have experienced domestic abuse in our community. It is amazing that “Our Emmeline” is continuing to support the fight for womens equality. A huge thank you to sculptor Hazel Reeves who has and continues to be such a strong campaigner and advocate for womens rights.” (Wythenshawe Safespots)
I also chose The Pankhurst Trust for its safeguarding of the iconic site of women’s activism at 62 Nelson Street, Manchester. Memorable for me was a visit to see the recently donated jacket and skirt worn by Emmeline Pankhurst.
“Thank you for supporting The Pankhurst Trust. We’ve been delighted to see the way the people of Manchester, and the rest of the country, have embraced “Our Emmeline”, showing that the suffragette spirit still lives on! The money raised will be integral in helping us to preserve the former home of Emmeline Pankhurst, and the birthplace of the suffragette movement, to inspire and empower future generations.” (The Pankhurst Trust)
Each mini Emmeline costs £8,900, including granite circular base, and delivery (within reason). You receive a Certificate of Authenticity and an after-care pack (wax, brush, cloth).
