MUD – the soundscape of intertidal mudflats & saltmarsh

MUD — an audio story of hope from the tidal mudflats and saltmarshes of Chichester Harbour. Listen for the haunting cry of the curlew and the babbling of overwintering brent geese carried on the tide. This is part of the Soundscapes of Hope installation, part of the Steyning Festival, May 2026.

CLAY – the soundscape of the scrubland

CLAY — an audio story of hope from the scrubland at Knepp Wildland, where heavy Weald clay has become a place of renewal. Listen for nightingales, turtle doves and cuckoos, and even the quiet mewing of a young beaver hidden in the soundscape. This is part of the Soundscapes of Hope installation, at Steyning Festival 2026.

CHALK – soundscape of the chalk downlands & chalk streams

CHALK — an audio story of hope from the rare chalk downlands and clear chalk streams of Sussex. Listen for skylarks, corn buntings and reed warblers – voices of a remarkable landscape. You might also hear typical human-made sounds – a train passing in Lewes, old planes flying over Ditchling. This is part of the Soundscapes of Hope installation, at Steyning Festival 2026.
