Professor Jude Howell

Our friendship developed during our fun sittings in my studio. Professor Jude Howell was a very special woman, who lived every minute to the full until her untimely death in 2022 (see The Guardian’s obituary).

Jude was an esteemed political scientist at the London School of Economic and Political Science (LSE), working in the broad interdisciplinary field of development studies, with a particular interest in workers’ rights and organising and women’s rights. Her research interests related to the politics of policy processes, state-society relations, securitisation of aid, and authoritarianism and development. She had lived and worked in China, India, Mozambique and Jordan.
