Our Emmeline: Blocking-out in clay
With Our Emmeline’s armature complete, there’s no time to waste. On goes the ceremonial first piece of clay.
But with half a tonne of clay to add, I have to speed up.

Now I have blocked-in the clay, onto the armature, it’s time to bring in the model and make sure I’m applying the clay in the right place.

Thank you very much for sharing your armature building process it is extremely helpful!
I am using your basic technique and I’m wondering if I need to seal the foam, with what I should use for that since I work with water based clay. Do you also use a water based clay? Do you have any advice for me?

Hi Erin – thanks for getting in touch. I don;t seal the foam and use water-based clay. In order for the clay to stick to the polystyrene, I often have it inside a metal cage, and stuff the clay in and on. Or wrap around thing wire with loops on it that the clay can key onto. Good luck! Hazel : )
