Emmeline portrait supports Manchester charities
Two Manchester-based rights charities are sharing in the proceeds from this new life-size bronze portrait of Emmeline Pankhurst.
As a token of my appreciation, ten percent of the sales price is split between Breakthrough UK and Women Asylum Seekers Together (WAST, Greater Manchester).
Breakthrough UK
I chose Breakthrough UK – an organisation run and controlled by disabled people – for their excellent work to make society fairer and more accessible, including for disabled women.
“We are delighted to have been chosen as one of the beneficiaries of the Pankhurst portrait sculpture sales. Twenty years ago Breakthrough was born out of a group of disabled activists fighting for change in employment rights. We are proud of our activist roots and so the Pankhurst and suffrage movement is close to our hearts.” (Michele Scattergood, CEO Breakthrough UK)
Women Asylum Seekers Together (WAST)
I chose WAST for how they empower and support one another, whilst fighting for their rights and raising awareness about the issues that force women to seek international protection and the effects of the injustices experienced through the UK immigration system.
“Women Asylum Seekers Together (WAST) support and fight for the rights of women. We campaign against the hostile and inhumane treatment in the UK immigration system. WAST have been supporting women seeking asylum for the past 14years. We are very grateful to be part of the beneficiaries of the Emmeline Pankhurst portrait sales.” (WAST Management group)
