FESTIVAL: new White Stork soundscape
Join me on Saturday 23 May for the White Stork & Nature Festival. My new White Stork soundscape of hope, will be played in the afternoon, and draws on my recordings from this and previous years. With thanks to the White Stork Project for allowing me to put my microphones out in the stork enclosure once more. Here is a sneaky preview of the soundscape.
Storrington has long been associated with storks. ‘Estorchetone’ is mentioned in the Domesday Book, meaning the abode or homestead of storks. In the heart of Storrington, at Place Villerest, the stork village emblem was unveiled in 2002. Back then, the Parish Council adopted this stork design, and it now serves to integrate our past with the present, forging a unique character for Storrington.
It is against this historic backdrop that Storrington was an obvious choice when Knepp sought to partner with a vibrant community in a local village. They applied – and succeeded in 2025 – for Knepp Wildland together with Storrington to be jointly named as the 16th designated European Stork Village – the first and only one of its kind in the UK! To celebrate this momentous award the first-ever White Stork and Nature Revival Festival was held in 2025, hosted by Storrington & Sullington Parish Council.
This is being run by the Storrington and Sullington Parish Council in partnership with the White Stork Project, the Knepp Wildland Foundation and the European Stork Villages Network.
There is a wonderful schedule of events across the day – for the detail see here.
